What Is CVG Substrate?

CVG is a blend of coco coir, vermiculite and gypsum. It holds moisture well and is low in nutrients, which makes it a reliable bulk substrate to mix with colonised grain in a monotub or BagTek grow.

Should I Buy Sterilised CVG Or Mix My Own?

Our sterilised CVG bags remove the preparation and the guesswork on moisture and sterility, which makes them the better choice for your first grows. Mixing your own from a coco coir brick costs less at volume, but you'll need to prepare and pasteurise it yourself.

How Do I Make CVG With A Coco Coir Brick?

Break one 650g brick into a large bucket with 4.35 litres of boiled water, 10.5 litres of vermiculite and 65g of gypsum, then stir into an even blend. A handful squeezed firmly should release only a few drops of water — that's field capacity. Check out our CVG calculator for help with different ratios.

How Much CVG Do I Need For My Monotub?

It depends on the size of your tub. Our 45L BagTek bundles pair 1.5kg of sterile grain with 3kg of CVG, and our spawn and substrate calculator works out the right amounts for other tub sizes.

Can I Use Coco Coir Bricks For Plants?

Yes. Our organic coco coir bricks are 100% biodegradable and hold up to 9 litres of water, so they're an ideal growing medium for your plants.
