In mycology, the term substrate refers to organic materials that can support the growth of mycelium. The good news is, that mycelium only requires two essential elements from substrate - moisture and nutrition. Not to mention, a structure to grow on!

Using mushroom substrate not only produces healthier fruits than fruiting directly from grain spawn would. It also allows you to expand the volume of your genetics by splitting your grain spawn in to multiple substrate bags – providing bigger yields in the process.

Our pre-sterilised mushroom substrates will last for up to 3 months when stored in a cool dark room (although, we’ve used ours after 12 months!), but are best used fresh.

We sterilise our mushroom substrates in our medical autoclave for 1 hour and 30 minutes, to ensure heat reaches the centre of each block. We then seal each bag in front of a laminar flow hood in our clean room, so no contaminants can get in.
