Our Story
Spore Supplies was born out of a need to create reliable sterilised products for hobbyist mushroom growing.
We began growing mushrooms during lockdown as a hobby and like most others in the field, quickly became obsessed. This led to more complex grows and a need for lower contamination rates. That's when things bottle necked.
Due to a lack of reliable vendors on the market, and long lead-times from existing suppliers, we made the call to double down and invest in mycology equipment - to get into the art of substrate and grain spawn production.
The Breakdown
Take A Look-
A few pressure cookers and a flow hood later, our first myco venture was born, ‘Sporehouse’ was meant to be a small mushroom farm located in the rural market town of Wotton-Under-Edge, but after trials and tribulations building out a grow operation in an old, disused bank, the inevitable came. It quickly became clear that large scale substrate production was expensive, complicated and most importantly dangerous.
-
After nearly setting the old bank on fire during a test run of a DIY bulk substrate steam-steriliser, it was time to throw in the towel and think again. It became clear that the important task at hand was to get a steriliser working and on the go. Alas, the dream of a mushroom farm faded into the background as we scoured through the internet for a safe, reliable solution.
-
Fast forward six months and a new project was born. Spore Supplies was brought to fruition by a unique opportunity to operate in a business premises in Watford. With an Industrial, medical-grade autoclave under our belt, the first small batches of sterile grains and substrates were produced in hopes of supplying amateur mycologists across the UK with the fastest turnaround times on the market.
