What is the best bulk substrate ratio for oyster mushrooms?
For oysters, a reliable bulk substrate is hardwood pellets + soy hull pellets. This blend is known as Master Mix and provides high yields for gourmet species like oysters. To make 4kg of master mix substrate, add 800g Hardwood pellets, 800g soy hull pellets, and 2.4L of water (20% hardwood, 20% soy hull, 60% water), bag and sterilise or pasteurise. Add oyster mushroom grain spawn at 10-20% by weight for fast colonisation (500g spawn + 4kg master mix works well).
