How do I check field capacity correctly?

Grab a tight handful of substrate and squeeze reasonably hard. You want a couple of drops to run from the substrate, not a stream. If it gushes with water, it’s too wet. To fix: add dry material again, and mix. If nothing at all appears and the handful crumbles, it’s too dry; mist and mix in small increments, then retest.
