Is the orange liquid in my grain metabolites or contamination?
Small amounts of amber/orange exudate can be mycelial metabolites responding to stress. If growth is otherwise bright white, even, and the odour is clean, it can be completely fine. If the colour spreads excessively, the odour turns sour, or growth stalls, assume contamination and discard the bag without opening. To improve: cooler incubation, better gas exchange, and cleaner inoculant.
